On 21 April, the nursery school of the French International School of Harare was filled with joy, discovery, and laughter as pupils celebrated Journée de la Maternelle (Nursery School Day). Organized under the umbrella of the Agence pour l’enseignement français à l’étranger (AEFE), this event was part of a worldwide celebration across French schools, highlighting the importance of early childhood education and the spirit of curiosity that defines it.

From the lightest breath to bursts of laughter, science became the playful thread of the day. Children were invited to explore the invisible yet ever-present element of air through a series of engaging activities. Adapted experiments, practical workshops, and interactive challenges allowed them to observe how air is produced, understand how it moves, and discover its influence on the environment around them.

The atmosphere was vibrant and festive, with pupils stepping into a world of exploration where learning was woven seamlessly into play. Each activity encouraged observation, questioning, and cooperation, helping children enrich their vocabulary while developing early scientific thinking skills. The day emphasized teamwork, curiosity, and the joy of learning, reminding families and educators alike of the power of hands-on discovery in shaping young minds.

By celebrating Journée de la Maternelle, the French International School of Harare joined a global initiative that connects French schools across the world. It was not only a local highlight but also a shared moment of pride, reinforcing the values of creativity, collaboration, and wonder that lie at the heart of early education.
