On Tuesday, 11 November 2025, the French School of Harare gathered to commemorate Armistice Day — a day marking the end of the First World War and honouring all those who fought and sacrificed for peace.

Upon arrival, diplomats, ambassadors, and guests were warmly welcomed by students who presented them with the traditional Bleuet de France (cornflower) and notebooks, symbolizing remembrance, gratitude, and the shared commitment to peace and education.

The ceremony continued with the singing of La Marseillaise, led by the school choir, filling the courtyard with a spirit of unity and pride. This was followed by poems and readings from students, reflecting on courage, hope, and the importance of peace in today’s world.

A key moment of the event was the speech by the Ambassador of France to Zimbabwe, who spoke about the significance of remembrance and the responsibility of future generations to preserve peace and understanding. His words inspired both students and guests to uphold the values of respect, humanity, and solidarity.

The commemoration concluded with a minute of silence, as everyone stood together in reflection and gratitude.

At the French School of Harare, Armistice Day is more than a commemoration — it is a living lesson in empathy, unity, and the enduring pursuit of peace.
